You load it from the bottom up. Rod handles drop into the bottom pockets, which keeps the butts separated and stops them sliding across each other, and the external buckle straps then cinch the blanks against the body of the bag. The drawstring top closes over everything and limits movement while you walk in. The long cylindrical main compartment still leaves room for reels, landing net handles and rod holders.

A side pocket takes the small items you want without opening the whole bag, such as line, scissors, bait packs or a spare spool. The shoulder strap carries the load over uneven ground, and it is worth checking the drawstring, zipper and buckles before you set off.
